Like other major cities across the nation, Pensacola runs with Ahmaud, a young Black man murdered, on Feb 23rd. His case has made national news as more evidence and video footage surfaces that a conspiracy to cover-up his story and protect the offenders has sparked outrage. The walk-run was sponsored by 100 Black Men of Pensacola at the Bayfront around the Blue Whahoo’s stadium.
Arbery, 25, was jogging in a neighborhood outside Brunswick, Georgia, on February 23 when he was chased down by a former police officer and his son who were armed, authorities said. Arbery was shot after struggling with the son over his shotgun, according to a Glynn County Police report. The former officer later told officers that he thought Arbery looked like a suspect in a series of nearby break-ins, Fthe report said.
Jason Vaughn, Arbery’s high school football coach, is asking supporters to honor Arbery by going for a run of 2.23 miles, representing the date of his death on Friday, which would have been his birthday. He asks that runners document their run and post it to social media under the hashtag #IRunWithMaud.
We thank 100 Black Men for organizing and making this run possible. To find out more about 100 Black Men of Pensacola, check out there listing and contact information in the Pensacola Black Business Directory powered by Bantucola.com.
