Most people talk about being professional in business however, living up to a professional standard is completely different. In fact, when it comes to being professional most can’t really define it. However, there is a standard that most overlook when it comes to being professional. In examining professionalism there are several areas that need addressing.
Establish Professional Relationships with Clients before Becoming Their Friends.
Professionalism as a business owner is sometimes different than working within an office. Interaction between colleagues in the workplace can be a lot different than the relationships you build with other businesses outside of the office. When dealing with other businesses you sometimes create bonds you wouldn’t necessarily create with co-workers. However, there are times when you must separate friendship from business. Before you start hanging out with your clients or building a personal relationship, make sure that you have established the difference between work and personal from the very beginning. If you muddle between personal and professional when you’re doing business there could be confusion with clients and they will not know when to take you seriously when doing business. Also, it could create a lack of respect for you and your business if you don’t distinguish what mode you’re operating in. Personal relationships can work if you establish your connections correctly.
Make Sure Your Professional System Is In Place.
Systems are the way you do things. They are the procedures that can be replicated. With business systems, you can produce the same products and services with the same level of consistency. Once you have created your systems and written down the sequential steps, your employees can follow the proper procedures consistently. You can monitor these processes and improve when necessary. The people who benefit the most from having systems in place are your customers who know what to expect from your business. Effective business systems can be created for all kinds of work performance that occur in your organization. If your systems are in place people will notice how effient you are as a business owner.
